Important Dates

  • Last date to add a Fall (F) or Year (Y) course without permission of the instructor is Tuesday, September 17.

  • The Non-Essential Supplementary Fee Opt-Out Form is now available. Visit the Student Choice Initiative website for details and a link to the form. You have the option to continue support for student-run programs and services or to opt-out. The deadline to Opt-Out is Wednesday, September 18.

Student Support Services

  • The University community stands together and offer our care and concern to those impacted by Hurricane Dorian at York and beyond. If you are a student from the Bahamas, there are many resources & supports for you here at York. If you’d like to find out how to donate or support relief efforts, there are many opportunities and ways to contribute.

Careers Support

  • Attend the 2019 Fall Career Fair and interact with a wide range of organizations, employers and advisers that will be setting up shop and answering all your career-related questions.   • Employment Opportunity: The Division of Students Communications & Marketing Team is hiring for the Work/Study positions of Digital Communications Assistant and Web Development Assistant for the Fall/Winter academic session! You can find the applications for these positions at Experience York, the Career Centre’s full-service career and experiential learning portal. Application Deadline: Monday, September 30.

  • LaunchYU Experience Program Pitch Day is just around the corner, Lions. Join us to celebrate entrepreneurship at York U, check out what our 2019 entrepreneurs have come up with, and see who takes a slice of the $15,000 pot of cash awards! Money Matters

  • Effective January 2019 Canada Revenue Agency replaced the T2202A form with a new T2202 form that requires your Social Insurance Number (SIN) be included on the form. Failure to provide a SIN, if a SIN is available, may result in a $100 penalty. Please ensure you have provided your SIN in your Student Personal Information record by February 1, 2020.

  • Workshop: OSAP: Money for YU. This workshop, hosted by the SFS Peer Team, focuses on the three stages of your student loan, what to expect and who is involved in financial aid, loan repayment as well as scholarships and bursaries. You will also learn how to use debt to help you, not hinder you and how to identify opportunities in your spending patterns that can lead to major savings. Monday, September 23, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. 203 Bethune College.

Out & About On Campus

  • YorkFest Welcome Week, a long-standing York U tradition. Immerse yourself in the student community at The Festival Village and enjoy giveaways, music, orientation events and much more. Monday, September 23 to Friday, October 4, multiple venues.

International Connections

  • Are you a first-year international student or exchange student? You’re invited to this year’s President’s International Student Reception! Join the President, Deans of the Faculties and consular representatives from around the world for an evening of meeting new people in the international community of York and beyond. Wednesday, September 18, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Schulich Executive Dining Room, Seymour Schulich Building.

Athletics & Recreation

  • Show your #HeartOfALion and Rock Your Red for the Men’s Football Homecoming game! They host the Ottawa Gee-Gees this Saturday, September 21, 5 p.m. York Lions Stadium. The first 100 fans receive a Lions ball cap! There will be food trucks, lots of other prizes and much more.

  • Upcoming Learning Skills Workshops, held at the Sound & Moving Images Library (SMIL) on the ground floor of Scott Library and are open to all York students; registration is not required.

    • Learning Power: Everyone studies and prepares differently. Find out your own learning style and discover how to improve your academic performance! Tuesday, September 17, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
    • Secrets of Academic Success: Take this workshop and learn some key strategies to improve your academic achievement and confidence and find out which learning skills you most need to succeed at university. Tuesday, September 10, 11 a.m. to noon and Wednesday, September 18, 11 a.m. to noon.
    • Time Management: Learn practical, personalized approaches to managing your time that work for you. Wednesday, September 18, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Friday, September 20, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. **Please note: the Wednesday Time Management workshop is at Bethune College BC203**
    • Reading & Note-Taking: Learn more effective reading and note taking techniques to help you stay on top of your course work. Thursday, September 19, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Worth Repeating

  • Visit York’s new Back-to-School website to access back-to-school resources and learn about events to help ease the transition into the 2019-2020 academic year. The resources are organized by year of study on the site, so you can find the perfect resources and supports that fit your needs as you start the year!

    We encourage you to check out the following apps to help support a mentally healthy campus:

    • Big White Wall, a free online mental health and wellbeing service offering self-guided programs and creative outlets that includes a space to express, connect, learn and remain anonymous; or
    • BounceBack Ontario, offers a free skill-building program that offers two forms of support: online videos; and telephone coaching sessions with guided workbooks.
  • Changes to Parking: The university has changed its campus parking enforcement process to improve efficiency, effectiveness and fairness to everyone using York U’s parking operations. As the new process takes effect, the University is offering individuals with outstanding tickets an opportunity to settle their accounts by way of a ticket relief program, available until September 2019.   • Transportation Discount: Apply online for the GO Transit Student Identification Card! You can choose to have the card mailed to you or you can pick it up:

    • Keele students, pick up from the Parking & Transportation Office at the William Small Centre.
    • Glendon Students, pick up from the Parking & Transportation Office at the Glendon Greenhouse.

    Please note that this GO Transit Student Identification Card is only available for full-time enrolled and registered students.
